  1. Subject: fw : the odds are against them
  2. there is no way to undermine the devastation and loss we ' ve all
  3. witnessed and felt over the last couple of weeks , but when you look at the
  4. following numbers and realize how much worse it could ' ve been , i guess there
  5. are a lot of people who were saved . . .
  6. subject : the odds are against them
  7. by now everyone has been hearing the death toll rise
  8. and reports of the
  9. destruction from the terrorist attacks on the us .
  10. these were deplorable
  11. acts
  12. that we will never forget . but now is a time to look
  13. at the other side of
  14. the
  15. numbers coming out of new york , washington and
  16. pennsylvania . the sad
  17. but somewhat uplifting side that the mainstream
  18. media has not reported yet
  19. - the survival rates and some positive news about
  20. the attacks .
  21. * * * the buildings * * *
  22. * the world trade center -
  23. the twin towers of the world trade center were
  24. places of employment for
  25. some
  26. 50 , 000 people . with the missing list of just over
  27. 5 , 000 people , that means
  28. 90 % of the people targeted survived the attack . a
  29. 90 % on a test is an ' a ' .
  30. * the pentagon -
  31. some 23 , 000 people were the target of a third plane
  32. aimed at the pentagon .
  33. the latest count shows that only 123 lost their
  34. lives . that is an amazing
  35. 99 . 5 % survival rate . in addition , the plane seems to
  36. have come in too low ,
  37. too early to affect a large portion of the building .
  38. on top of that , the
  39. section that was hit was the first of five sections
  40. to undergo renovations
  41. that would help protect the pentagon from terrorist
  42. attacks . it had
  43. recently
  44. completed straightening and blastproofing , saving
  45. untold lives . this attack
  46. was sad , but a statistical failure .
  47. * * * the planes * * *
  48. * american airlines flight 77
  49. this boeing 757 that was flown into the outside of
  50. the pentagon could have
  51. carried up to 289 people , yet only 64 were aboard .
  52. luckily 78 % of the seats
  53. were empty .
  54. * american airlines flight 11
  55. this boeing 767 could have had up to 351 people
  56. aboard , but only carried
  57. 92 .
  58. thankfully 74 % of the seats were unfilled .
  59. * united airlines flight 175
  60. another boeing 767 that could have sat 351 people
  61. only had 65 people on
  62. board . fortunately it was 81 % empty .
  63. * united airlines flight 93
  64. this boeing 757 was one of the most uplifting
  65. stories yet . the smallest
  66. flight to be hijacked with only 45 people aboard out
  67. of a possible 289 had
  68. 84 % of its capacity unused . yet these people stood
  69. up to the attackers and
  70. thwarted a fourth attempted destruction of a
  71. national landmark , saving
  72. untold numbers of lives in the process .
  73. * * * in summary * * *
  74. out of potentially 74 , 280 americans directly
  75. targeted by these inept
  76. cowards , 93 % survived or avoided the attacks . that ' s
  77. a higher survival rate
  78. than heart attacks , breast cancer , kidney
  79. transplants and liver transplants
  80. - all common , survivable illnesses .
  81. the hijacked planes were mostly empty , the pentagon
  82. was hit at it ' s
  83. strongest point , the overwhelming majority of people
  84. in the world trade
  85. center buildings escaped , and a handful of
  86. passengers gave the ultimate
  87. sacrifice to save even more lives .
  88. pass this information on to those in fear and the
  89. media . don ' t fear these
  90. terrorists . the odds are against them .
